Who Are We?
The Northern Ohio Branch of the International Dyslexia Association (IDA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, scientific and educational organization dedicated to the study and treatment of the language-based reading disability, dyslexia. Our Branch was formed to increase public awareness of dyslexia in the Northern Ohio area. Our all-volunteer Board of Directors meets regularly during the year to manage the operations of the Branch. There are two other Branches of the IDA in Ohio -- Ohio Valley, based in Cincinnati; and Central Ohio, based in Columbus.
How Can We Help?
Tutoring, testing, and other referral information about the Cleveland, Toledo, Akron and Canton areas can be obtained by calling our Branch Hotline at 216.556.0883. We will respond to your inquiries within 48 hours. Many of our members are actively involved in the treatment and remediation of dyslexia. Our members are educators, psychologists, physicians, individuals with dyslexia, and parents who have dealt with learning disability issues with the local school systems and the State Department of Education. In the past few years, we have developed a network of local school officials, parents, attorneys, and other professionals who are accustomed to helping parents navigate the channels of the system. One of The IDA's most important objectives is to "educate the educators" and raise awareness of dyslexia in order to increase early intervention in the schools.

How Do We "Educate the Educators"?
- Our Branch sponsors a yearly symposium, which attracts about 250 teachers, parents, administrators and psychologists.
- We offer Teacher Training Institutes in the structured-language or Orton-Gilligham approach to teaching reading and spelling during the summer months as well. Graduate credit is offered with our Teacher Training Institutes.
- We publish a semi-annual newsletter to keep our members informed of local events, research articles, feature articles, and parent information.
